Four simple ingredients combine to create magical bites of Christmas joy. Peppermint Moose Balls are simple to make while still tasting elegant, they are perfect for your next gathering!
I still remember that it was my Aunt Dea (thanks Dea!) that first introduced “Moose Balls” to our family. Once I tasted it I had to know how to make them, and when she explained that it was only two ingredients mixed together and coated in chocolate I could not believe it. I had to make them for myself, and thus our family was hooked!
Last year I was looking for a way to jazz up the original moose ball recipe, and being a lover of all things peppermint flavor this time of year I sought out to make Peppermint Moose Balls. I searched every grocery store and target we went to trying to find peppermint oreos. I knew they existed I just could not seem to find them anywhere, everyone had the red ones but those are not flavored! So finally I was out of time, I had to work with what I had. So I crushed up a candy cane and added it to the mixture, and I suggest you do the same if you can’t find them either!
So this year when I went grocery shopping the day after Thanksgiving and saw they had peppermint oreos, I grabbed them right away, and I suggest you do the same!
Peppermint Moose Balls taste like they take a lot longer to make than they actually do, so you will love these because they can easily be made in-between accomplishing other things on your to do list. For example you can make the mixture and form the balls, and while they chill, you can wrap some presents. Or include your children. If you process the cookies, they can mix the cream cheese and crushed oreos and then form the balls and help coat them in chocolate. These would also make a great gift for your children’s teachers and they can say they made them because they are super simple.
Yum!
I also wanted to share a bit of back story to the blog here because this seems like the perfect time. Last fall I really started to think about the fact that I wanted to start a blog, so for Christmas last year Johnny bought me a (used) DSLR camera to help me realize my dream. So when I was making the Peppermint Moose Balls last year I had the blog in mind and one of the first photos I took using my new camera was of them. And now here we are a full year later (how did that happen so fast?!) and it has come full circle. I am actually sharing this recipe on my blog. So the celebrate I wanted to share the photo I took of the moose balls a year ago. It’s not not perfect, but it has a special place in my heart for sure!
I have learned so much since I took those photos, not just about how to work the camera, and have come a long way. And I just wanted to thanks all of my friends and family for being so supportive and encouraging.
Okay…before I get too sappy and sentimental I will leave you with one last photo and the recipe. Enjoy!
